A few years ago a delightful film was released called “Florence Foster Jenkins” staring Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant. You may have missed this film when it was released, but do yourself a favor, if you enjoy laughter, go and find it anywhere you can. Meryl Streep takes us back to 1944 New York and gives us a glimpse into the life of the delightful Florence Foster Jenkins. Florence was an eccentric patron of Music in New York, and her greatest desire was to sing herself. Mind you, Florence was not a skilled singer, and that’s putting it kindly. Unfortunately, she simply didn’t realize it. Because of her wealth and position, everyone covered for her to hide the truth, that was until she actually rented Carnagie Hall in New York to put on a show for the troops. To this day, the recording of that concert is still the most requested in Carnegie Hall’s history. The concert made her realize that people had been laughing at her singing. And yet, shortly before she passed away, Florence famously said,
“People May Say I Can’t Sing, But No One Can Ever Say I Didn’t Sing.”
Psalm 100 simply says that we should make a joyful noise unto the Lord. He did not say “sing on key” as the talented great singers of the day are able to do. God simply wants us to open up our mouth and use the voice that He has given to us to praise Him. God loves you and that’s worth celebrating!
Great movie
