“your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God” 1 Corinthians 2:5

Election season is here and we are being inundated with debates over the merits, or non-merits, of one candidate over another, one issue over another, one agenda over another. The more I hear the more I’m reminded of today’s scripture verse, “your faith should not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God”. So much of the time we charge out with our positions and work our blood pressure into a frenzy defending them. Years ago I learned something.

I’m Not In Control. I Never Was. 

The book of Ecclesiastes tells us that “there is nothing new under heaven”. When you really think about it humans have been going at each other since the fall of man. We’re not even clever enough to come up with new subjects to disagree over; money, authority, control, sex, power, and the list goes on. The truth is there is only One with true power. There is only One with true authority. There is only One with true control. God Almighty is his name. Between you and me, thank God! When we as humans try to take over control, we quickly make a mess of things. Set aside the ills of society and just focus on your own life for a moment. If you are anything like me, it will take only a minute or two of reflection for you to say, “Lord God, forgive me for looking to my own wisdom and not to yours!” Let such a prayer fall from your lips and be prepared for a glorious, fulfilled, prosperous, and contented life!
