“It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for He gives His beloved sleep..” Psalm 127:2
For a few decades of my life a good night sleep was elusive. Invariably, once my head hit the pillow my brain would start working, rehashing every issue, problem, and difficulty that I was dealing with in life. Then I ran across Psalm 127:2 which says,
God Gives His Beloved Sleep
“I’m his beloved”, I thought. “So, why do I have such difficulty sleeping?” Then I realized that each day I was failing to take God up on his promises. God said to “cast your cares upon Me.” I thought, “why not take Him up on his offer”, so I did. Each day I began to pray, “Lord, whatever you have for me today I am truly grateful. As for my cares, I gladly entrust them to you”. For the better part of a decade now I have prayed this prayer every day and I would venture to say that in more than 95% of my nights I look like the cat in the photo above. You are God’s beloved. Sleep tight tonight.
