February 2nd is Groundhog Day! Time to pull out this classic Bill Murray film where he plays a Pittsburgh weatherman who heads to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to see if the groundhog will predict six more weeks of winter or an early spring. If you haven’t seen the film, Bill ends up having to re-live the same day over, and over, and over, and over again. Every day his alarm clock radio wakes him up with Sonny and Cher singing, “I’ve got you babe”, and the exact same day proceeds to unfold,
Except, For What He Changes
So what does he change? Along the journey he becomes at first a thief and a Romeo, then a piano virtuoso, an ice sculptor, an expert on French poetry, and eventually a notorious do-gooder for the townspeople of Punxsutawney. Over the years there’s been speculation on how many years he would have had to live the same day over and over to accomplish all that he accomplished. But, his endless winter cycle only ends, and springtime begins, when he learns how to love. He cared more for others than himself. Give it a try. God who has begun a good work in you will complete it.
