Veil

“Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.” Matthew 27:51

After the children of Israel were rescued out of Egypt, Aaron was given a long and extremely detailed list of instructions in creating a tabernacle with an inner sanctum called “the holy of holies”, the place where God would dwell among His people. Exodus 26 says a veil was to be woven of blue, purple, and scarlet thread and fine linen, and used as a divider between the people in the tabernacle and the inner Holy of Holies where God would dwell. The veil was to hang on four pillars of Acacia wood, and behind this veil Aaron was to place the Ark of the Covenant that held the Ten Commandments. From this place God would speak to Aaron, and through Aaron to the people. Mind you, to even enter this Holy of Holies, Aaron was given a detailed description of the garment he was to wear, along with an ornate breastplate with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel inlaid and spelled out in precious stones of topaz and emeralds and turquoise and sapphire and diamonds. This was called the breastplate of judgment so Aaron could bear the judgment of the children of Israel before the Lord. Aaron was even to wear small golden bells around his waist as a signal to the Lord that he was entering God’s presence in the Holy of Holies. Are you getting the picture that there was literally a veil of separation between us as humans, and God? You did not just approach the Lord. You could not because there was a veil of separation.

Then Jesus Went To The Cross.

As he hung on that cross the scripture says, “Jesus cried out with a loud voice and yielded up His spirit. Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.”  In that moment, the veil of separation between us and God was ripped in half. Not just torn, not just slit, but literally ripped in half from top to bottom. In other words, Jesus paid the price that allowed us to be face to face with God. That’s how much He loves you, and today He’s only just a prayer away. Talk to Him.
