The Optimist

“I would have fainted, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13

Every morning that you wake up you have the opportunity to believe the best about the day in front of you. This is not because you believe in the so-called “the law of attraction” – that you attract positive or negative outcomes through positive or negative thought. This concept, like many others in history, is mans attempt to substitute the principles in God’s word for secular concepts that kick God to the curb. The reality is, you can believe for the best in your life, because,

God Promises Us The Best For Our Lives.

Psalm 27:13 says we can “believe that we will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living”. “The land of the living” today is you and I. It’s our choice to believe that in this many times maddening world God’s goodness will shine through. Such hope is not just for hope sake, but is actually grounded in and throughout God’s word. Choosing optimism means you are choosing faith.

True Love

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.

In John 21:16 Jesus said from the cross, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.” God gave us His Son. We crucified Him. Jesus then turns to God and says, “Father forgive them”.

That’s What True Love Looks Like.

Jesus: our savior, our friend, the one who loves us most. Talk to Him.

Faith

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen…” Hebrews 11:1

Faith is not something you can hold in your hand or see with your eyes, but believing beyond what you can touch and see. Faith is believing that God loves you beyond your imagination and has a plan for your life. That you are a critical part of history on this planet and that heaven is cheering you every step of your journey. What you see as insignificant in your day to day life may in fact be life changing.

Stop Looking At Your Circumstances,

and judging your life by measuring it against your neighbor or society and start looking into the eyes of God. Let Him lead and let Him Guide you. “Lord God, whatever you have for me today, I am truly grateful.”

A Way Through

God said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.” Exodus 14:16

Henry Ford, the founder of the Ford Motor Company, once said, “There are no dead ends…

…There Is Always A Way Out.”

The doctor walks in, looks us in the eye and says, it’s cancer. The banker calls and says the payment is overdue. A loved one looks at us and says this is beyond repair. There are a thousand and one scenarios in life where we just need a way out. Thankfully God is a God of the Miraculous. Reach out in faith to Him. Somehow, someway, He will part the waters.

Rejoice!

“Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice!” Philippians 4:4

Joy is a choice we can make, no matter the circumstances that surround us. Many years ago when my wife and I both lost our jobs on the same day, we went home and did a victory lap in our kitchen! God had something new in store for us. We just decided to exercise our faith and trust Him. After all, Philippians 4:4 tells us:

Rejoice, and then, rejoice again!

Paul, the author of Philippians, then goes on to say why we can rejoice in all circumstances. “Be anxious for nothing,” he says, “but in everything by prayer, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Endless Supply

“For I am God, your God….I own the cattle on a thousand hills.” Psalm 50

It’s interesting to note that of all we make; homes, cars, clothes, computers, it all comes from this one home God gave to us called earth. Nothing is shipped over from Jupiter or Mars. Everything we have comes via “recycling” raw materials which God has provided. It all belongs to God, and yet He shares freely with us by saying over and over again,

“I Am Your Supply”

With a simple two minute search I found over 40 bible verses where God says, He is our supply. None more powerful than Deuteronomy 28, in which God provides a very long laundry list of blessings He is prepared to supply to those who love Him. God literally says He will, “Open the heavens, and the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land, and bless the work of your hands.” Look to God, and be prepared for rain.

No Greater Love

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

On this day, December 7th, we many times remember World War II and the attack on Pearl Harbor when so many Sailors died on that horrific day in the Hawaiian Islands. Yet today, as I walked through Liberty Station in San Diego, I discovered a plaque beneath a very large flag naming this small stretch of earth as “Ingram Plaza”. Being a little more than curious I looked up Osmond Ingram and discovered that on October 15, 1917 in World War I, young Osmond had spotted a torpedo headed straight toward his ship. More importantly it was headed right toward the ships depth charges that were lashed to the deck. Rather than running away, Osmond decided to run toward the these ‘water bombs’ and furiously started casting them overboard in an effort to save the ship and his fellow sailors. Osmond did indeed save the ship from sinking, and miraculously was the only soul aboard the ship that day who died when the torpedo hit the hull.

No Greater Love

Jesus gave his life that we all might be saved. Indeed, no greater love.

Believe!

Jesus said, “Whatever you ask in prayer, believe you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24

In this one sentence, Jesus sets forth a monumental concept that makes the impossible, possible. The key:

Believe!

I have witnessed more impossible miracles that I have prayed for come to pass than I could possibly list on multiple pairs of hands. In every instance, I believed without a doubt that they would come to pass. There are others that I have prayed over, some for more than a decade, that have not yet come to pass, but they will. I’m no different than you, I’ve just chosen to take Jesus at his word. I’ve not given myself the luxury to pick and choose which ones of Jesus promises to believe, and which ones not to believe. The Bible tells us that our job is to have faith, His job is to fulfill His word.

Yes, It’s Possible!

“With man it is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

There is a famous poem by John Greenleaf Whittier that says, “of all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, ‘it might have been’.” How many dreams do we leave at the curb of our lives because they are difficult, or time consuming, or just plain hard. That’s where I love Matthew 19:26. “With man it is impossible, but

With God, All Things Are Possible.”

You are never too young, or too old, to reach out to God and give to Him the desires of your heart.

Blessings

“Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Joy can prove to be elusive when the stress of life hits us. Thankfully, I often remember my grandmother saying to me as a child,

Count Your Blessings.

It may sound simple or cliche to hear that, but give it a try for yourself. Something amazing happens when we stop judging our lives based on those around us, and simply focus on the blessings in our own lives. Be they little or great, whatever they are they worth celebrating today. Paul knew this when he wrote his letter of encouragement to the church in Philippi (modern day Northern Greece), saying, “if anything is praiseworthy, meditate on these things
